Five Days At Memorial Booking
NEW BOOKING
Thrilled to share that I have booked a Co-Star role on the upcoming AppleTV limited series “Five Days At Memorial”
Directed by Academy Award winner John Ridley.
The film follows Jordie MacAulay (Ry Barrett) as he gets kicked off a hockey team and reluctantly travels back to his hometown because he has nowhere else to go. He’s the middle child of a fractured family and has a very contentious relationship with his estranged elder brother Nicky (Colin Price). Barrett and Price have great chemistry with each other which makes their sibling rivalry easy to buy into as the two brother try healing their divide while still letting years of resentment get in the way. They also do a nice job showing how similar Jordie and Nicky are in their behaviour as both of them can be quiet, distant and lash out in all the wrong ways when things don’t go their way. As the central heart of the story, Barrett and Price carry the film very well.

Tranquil Dreams Review
“ With that said, Still the Water is powered by its cast, most notably the two lead actors, Ry Barrett and Colin Price. For both, its a change in pace as these two actors frequented my own watch list in various horror films which never had this much drama. This film is a fairly quiet one and really shows off their acting skills as they both carry their role incredibly well. The dynamic in their performances do connect very well especially for Colin Price’s Nicky that goes through the most development throughout the film as his character almost breaks apart by the end. “

Geek Chic Elite Review
The actors do a good job of creating an atmosphere of real tension and unresolved emotions, with Colin Price really shining, especially in the final act of the film. You feel like you are watching a real group of people, separated by emotions and distance, trying one last time to find a way to figure it all out. There are some very powerful scenes and some moments that make you feel for what they are going through.
Shug McSween Review
“ The eldest McAulay boy Nicky, played by co-star Colin Price, is a hard-nosed emotional basket-case who can let his temper get in the way of his message. Price couldn’t be harder on his younger brother, and his character takes over a couple of scenes perfectly with his raw-emotion. Although appearing confused at times, Price’s character is rooted with love and hard-work, and this ‘typical’ eldest of the bunch just wants what’s best for his family. Price’s breakout performance is intense, it’s fierce and the foundation is stemmed with a heavy heart.

“Still The Water is tonally off kilter, but offers a tonne of emotional resonance”

There are some absolutely brilliant things about Still The Water, and some things that just don’t quite mesh.
But such is a first feature, and writer-director Susan Rodgers, for any misstep, makes five narratively and visually stunning choices right after.
This story of three brothers torn apart by a past family tragedy is heartbreaking and moving, with a screenplay result that begs to be witnessed. The characters are rich, their interactions human, and the film, in many ways, insightful.
When semi-pro hockey player Jordie, prone to violence, slips up once again and gets kicked off his team for fighting, he begrudgingly returns to his hometown. We get the sense immediately he doesn’t go home because it comforts him, but because the aimless man has nowhere else to go.
He surprises his brothers Nicky and Noah, as well as his father, Doug, a recovering alcoholic responsible for making the boys’ lives hell growing up. Everyone has managed to begrudgingly forgive the man, weak in his old age, except Jordie.
But we soon find out that just because family tensions don’t erupt at the first family brunch doesn’t mean they don’t seethe and bubble just under the surface.
This is an exceptional character drama that hits a few bad notes, but in the end, you probably won’t care. The performances range from adequate to stunning. Unfortunately, Ry Barrett shows up as Jordie in the big, emotional, cathartic scenes, but his brooding, wordless demeanour in the dialogue-heavy meantime just doesn’t do the trick.
He’s a capable actor — and the final third will show you what he’s truly made of — but he just plays Jordie a little bit too quietly. Meanwhile, Colin Price is a revelation as brother Nicky, the family favourite who isn’t as impressive as everyone thinks he is. Christina McInulty is fantastic as neighbour Abby, and finally, there’s a playful nature to Spencer Graham’s youngest brother Noah you can’t resist.
In score and tone, Still The Water falters. But it’s a moody, interesting first film from Prince Edward Island’s Susan Rodgers.
Despite any shortcomings, it will make waves. And if you’re not ready, your heart is going to get swallowed up in its undertow.
4/5 Stars
